Horses of Arda

CLICK ON ANY PICTURE TO SEE FULLY!!!

Bran ~ "Bramble, Raven"

A sorrel gelding with an easy, docile temperament. We see him once and briefly in Chapter 2 - Gonathra - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon.

Frenya
~ "Noble"

Edonar's roan mare. She is patient, long-suffering and steady - much like her rider. We see her first in Chapter 2 - Gonathra - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon and later in O Uruloki.

Briyn ~ "Rain"

Lohinon's dappled gelding. He is very intelligent and almost seems to chuckle quietly at others like his rider. We see him first in Chapter 4 - Rhevia - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon and he makes brief appearances throughout the rest of GOM.

Eryaelen ~ "Single Star"

Haiawen's black mare. This horse is Rohirrim bred and has Mearas blood. She is loyal, smart and fleet of foot. We see her once in Chapter 4 - Rhevia - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon and if I ever get around to writing Legolas and Haiawen's story, you shall see her there, too.

Nithin ~ "Trustworthy"

Ethon's gray/white gelding. He is curious, stubborn, but also very friendly. We see him first in chapter 4 - Rhevia - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon.

Talagor ~ "Swift Foot"

Elrohir's chestnut stallion, given to him by the Rohirrim. He is fiery and temperamental, often times stubborn, but when ridden by Elrohir also very loyal to a dangerous degree. Talagor's original name was Flame, but was changed by Elrohir when the stallion was gifted to him. We first see this horse in Chapter 9 - Anglenna - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon and then many times later in Hervess a Iel.

Colgil ~ "Gold Star"

Elladan's palomino stallion. given to him by the Rohirrim. He is very complicate in attitude and his willingness to obey his rider, but can be extremely fierce in battle. Colgil's original name was Sunmane, but this was changed by Elladan upon his receiving the stallion. We are first introduced to Colgil in Chapter 9 - Anglenna - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon and then we see him later in Hervess a Iel.

Alagos ~ "Storm of Wind"

While Alagos is technically a Shape-shifter Dragon, he does enjoy taking the form of a white stallion like the horse your see below. We are first aware of Alagos' existence in Chapter 13 - Dûdagor - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon. We then see him in every story after GOM.

Ladril ~ "Mist"

Edinon's white mare. Not much is known about Ladril besides her name, but it is said she is very even-tempered mare, sweet and willing to obey. We see Ladril mentioned in Chapter 19 - Rhaw - of Gwaleth, Ohtar, Mellon.

Lothuial ~ "Evening Flower"

Elrond's gray mare. Much like her rider, this mare is intelligent, not easy to startle and hardy. She is light of foot and swift as all elven horses should be. We see her first in Chapter 1 - Nor - of Hervess a Iel.

Tinnu ~ "Starry Twilight"

Lothril's dappled gray mare. This horse is elven-bred and so has many of the temperaments of the breed. Loyalty, fleetness, light color and willingness to perform are the most adapt at explaining Tinnu. We first see this mare in Chapter 1 - Nor - of Hervess a Iel.

Mithtal ~ "Gray Foot"

Eluchon's light gray stallion. This is equine is smaller then one would expect a male horse to be, but what he lacks in great size he makes up for in fierceness and speed. He loves to run, but obeys every command given to him by his rider. He is an excellent example of an elven horse. We are introduced to Mithtal in Chapter 8 - Bronwe - of Hervess a Iel.

Rosesul ~ "Red Wind"

Arienel's chestnut mare - the horse she had to use while away from Morroch. Rosesul is a halfbreed of elven horse and wild horse which accounts for her strange coloring among the horses of white and gray that make up most of the elven breed. This mare is slightly high-strung, fast of foot and intelligent. She shows some signs of her wild blood in her skittish nature, but has all the heart of an elven horse. We see her first in Chapter 8 - Bronwe - Hervess a Iel.

Potential Story-Starters...

Most dragons and riders are Rishten. Click any picture to make it larger. I do realize that these pictures are not "real" and that animation is not my "norm" when it comes to characters, but it is REALLY hard to find dragonriders in "real" pictures. LOL

There are SPOILERS!!!

This is Anarien. She is the first daughter of Aragorn and Arwen. You will recognize her name from the vision Arienel experienced at the end of Herves ar Iell. She is a character we MIGHT see more of in a future story. I make no promises.

The dragon behind her is a mix of an Eastern Dragon and a Northern Fire Dragon. His name is Smokeflight. He has the smaller build and facial characteristics of his Eastern kin, but the wings and intelligence from his Northern kin. His dragon-instincts are much more dominant in him then in those of a Northern Dragon.

This is Naroion. He is the only son of Alagos and Gweltari. As you will notice, he gets his looks from his mother, but his shape-shifting abilities come from his father. We will see more of Naroion in a future story, I guarantee it!

The dragon beside him is the daughter of Skyfang and Kamiseen. She is half Sand Dragon, half Sky Dragon with a bit of Battle Dragon thrown into her bloodline. Her coloring is a mix of her mother and father, but her wings come entirely from her Northern blood. Her name is Khalidah.

This is Aniralah. She is the only daughter of Eluchon and Nusayya. We might see more of her in a future story, but I am not sure. Her silver hair is from her father and her elven blood comes from both her parents. She is immortal and has slowly been changing how women are viewed in the South as she is warrior at heart and little gets in her way when she puts her mind to it.

The dragon behind her is Nightwind, a dark blue Sky Dragon. He is the mate of Cloudwing and has three dragonlings; Wind, Thunder and Moon. He and Aniralah met when she journeyed to Gondor and then Kaleilorin where his family was staying.

This is Sîdhloki. She is the youngest daughter of Alagos and Gweltari. Her name means "Dragon of Peace", but she finds it hard to live up to that title despite the fact that she holds great potential to fulfill the name she was given. Sîdhloki is part Human, part Shape-shifter Dragon and she has inherited the gift of changing her form. The only problem is that she can't do it at will!

The dragon under her is a former Dark Dragon named Obsidianclaw. He is a Treasure Dragon and the brother of Emeraldsong. He used to be in the Clan, but then developed a madness of the mind and was driven out. It is unsure what healed his mind at this point, but he is fiercely loyal to Sîdhloki.

Sand Dragons

Sand Dragons are exclusive to the deserts of Harad. They only come in one color: sand, and their eyes are usually gold or yellow to better help them blend into their surroundings. These dragons hunt in packs to take down large animals and many animals in a herd. They are mostly nocturnal when they exit the caves they live in, but will also emerge during the day to bask in the sun. Sand Dragons are long in the body, tail and neck. They are wingless and have flaps that can shield their faces and ears from the harsh sandstorms that are so unpredictable in South. The females are the leaders in the Desert Clan, the lead female - usually the oldest - being called Matresena meaning "Mother Queen". The males are the warriors and they are content to be so. Females are named with "K" or "R" names and males are named with "H" or "S" names. While most of the Desert Clan is made up of many dragons all in one place, there are pockets of smaller groups spread throughout the mountains. These Clans meet every twenty years to find mates and sometimes trade dragons throughout the Clans to keep the bloodlines pure.

These are the dragons from the "main" Desert Clan, where the Matresena resides.

Daerhael

Ummm as you might have noticed, I added a new character to Hervess a Iel. I thought he was going to be really minor in his role, but it appears that he has other ideas, though, he has informed me of this in a very polite manner - very strange for one of my characters...

Anyway, this is Daerhael. I am not quite sure how big of a role he will be playing in Brono a Cuil or for how long, but he is relatively important to the plot.

His hair should be darker and a bit longer, but everything else is pretty much accurate, even the eye-color which is amazing.
