Some of the Basics about Dragons

Dragonling names will appear like this before they acquire their Full Name when they become Kinwa: Fang (water) or Star (tree). They will be known as Fang or Star. The ( ) is to show you what they will become when they acquire their Full Names.

If two or more dragonlings are named the same in the beginning (Example: Firescale and Firespirit would be - as dragonlings - Fire and Fire) then the second part of their name is also given to tell them apart. So two dragonlings named "Fire" would now have the first (and sometimes second) letter of the second part of their Full Name added to their dragonling name. An example of this: Fire and Fire would become Firesc - for Firescale - and Firesp - for Firespirit. Another example that can be used is the name "Flame". Flame for two dragonlings could become Flamet - for Flametooth - and Flamem - for Flamemoon.

Halfbreed dragonlings go in whichever category of dragon their father happens to be. Example: Dragonlings of a Fire Dragon male and a Water Dragon female would be in the Fire Dragon section because their father is a Fire Dragon. This is always so until the dragonlings get older and start either a) showing more of a Water Dragon talent or b) chooses to be known by their mother's type of dragon instead of their father's type.

Names are very important to the dragons. They put much thought into the first names they give to their dragonlings and they try to take into account that this name must be able to grow to fit the dragonling later when they get older. Dragon names usually fit either a temperament, color or talent of a dragon.

Dragons like the languages of the Free People - mostly Elven - and sometimes will name their dragonlings either in another language or partially in another language. Example: Voronflame. Voron is Elven for "Loyal" and Flame is, well, flame. Voronflame means "Loyal Flame".

Halfbreed dragons are usually given names that represent both parents. Names like Flame (brook) - Fire and Water dragons - and Ink (pearl) - Knowledge and Treasure dragons - are a mixture of both the father and the mother's species of dragon. Sometimes the father-like name will be first or other times the mother-like name will be first - it all depends on the dragonling.

Dragons range from many different sizes - huge and small. This is the order from largest to smallest of the dragons in the Dragon Clan.

Kinwa are young dragons that have not really grown into themselves, but are not children anymore. Kinwa can pair with another Kinwa and when they find this mate they become a Fangna or Clawnii.

Fangna are grown female dragoness.

Clawnii are grown male dragons.

Catinees (female) or Catiniis (male) are healer dragons.

Halfbreed dragons (dragons of two types. Example: Fire and Water) are indicated by an * sign.
