Sand Dragons

Sand Dragons are exclusive to the deserts of Harad. They only come in one color: sand, and their eyes are usually gold or yellow to better help them blend into their surroundings. These dragons hunt in packs to take down large animals and many animals in a herd. They are mostly nocturnal when they exit the caves they live in, but will also emerge during the day to bask in the sun. Sand Dragons are long in the body, tail and neck. They are wingless and have flaps that can shield their faces and ears from the harsh sandstorms that are so unpredictable in South. The females are the leaders in the Desert Clan, the lead female - usually the oldest - being called Matresena meaning "Mother Queen". The males are the warriors and they are content to be so. Females are named with "K" or "R" names and males are named with "H" or "S" names. While most of the Desert Clan is made up of many dragons all in one place, there are pockets of smaller groups spread throughout the mountains. These Clans meet every twenty years to find mates and sometimes trade dragons throughout the Clans to keep the bloodlines pure.

These are the dragons from the "main" Desert Clan, where the Matresena resides.
